Not only that, but Japan also tried to force the Indonesian people to sing their national anthem. It is referred to as a sun-facing greeting or seikerei in honor of the Japanese emperor. Basically, bowing down to face the sun in a religion believed by the Japanese people is a form of respect for the god of the sun.
This was opposed and rejected by the Indonesian people, and in those days Singaparna became one of the reasons why the people of West Java confronted the Japanese. It is also clear that the existence of Seikerei is opposed by many existing scholars, since it is similar to the movement of prayers. Thus, further muddying the warm atmosphere at that time will cause even more problems between Japan and Indonesia.
There have been many large clergy opposing the movement’s presence and encouraging its troops to fight the opposing army. Of course, this was done to protect independence and did not want to do what the Japanese people had religious beliefs. However, because this is so stressed, the invading army considers anyone who does not want to do so to be a dissident and deserves to be punished.
Singaparna People’s Opposition to Japanese Politics
One of the priests who rejected the seikerei movement at the time was KH Zaynal Mustafa. He clearly refused to do so with all the students of the pesantren Sukamanah, and Singaparna caused resistance from the people of West Java against the Japanese. It also includes saying that this act of idolatry and should be avoided so that Muslims can seikerei.
Of course, KH Zaynal Mustafa did not remain silent, watching the Japanese torture anyone who refused to take action. He began to strategicize to increase strength so that he could show a proper rebellion against Japanese forces. An army of pesantren students was deployed to be able to fight the enemy.
At first, before there was a resistance between the inhabitants of Singaparna West Java against the Japanese, the invaders sent their people to hold talks with KH Zaynal Mustafa that he understood. But it turned out that in the end, the Japanese ambassador was actually killed and angered the invaders, so they decided to adopt a tougher approach.
Finally, the resistance of the people of Singaparna West Java against the Japanese was no longer inevitable. Although the number of troops has certainly lost a lot so that the indeed opposing army can absorb resistance. There were too many troops from Pesantren who were detained by the Japanese and killed because they were dissidents and disobeyed their orders.
People who pursue anti-semitic politics in Singaparna
People in the Singaparna region are themselves people who actually tend to be religious. So that the different policies of the colonialists are really very opposed, especially with the various atrocities committed. This is very contrary to the religious concept adopted by most Singaparna people, or Islam.
One of the obstacles to the resistance of the people of Singaparna West Java against the Japanese was that there were many who died of forced labor at the time. Also, all Japanese behavior seems heterosexual. He has the heart to do everything in his power to punish anyone who does not want to obey what is ordered and is considered a rebel.
Moreover, the policy issued by the Japanese side is increasing and there is no reason to reject them. This policy is considered contrary to religious teachings and is binding on nature. So it makes the people live a sad life and has no freedom to do according to the teachings of their religion.
The western Java Singaparna residents’ resistance to the Japanese took place for about an hour in the village of Sukamanah. Troops led by KH Zaynal Mustafa carried swords and showed the bamboo as their weapon. In addition to students, there are combinations, and there are also troops from Kempetai, Garut and Tasikmalaya. They all united to confront the arbitrary Japanese colony, even though they eventually had to lose.

KH was an actually simple person known as Zaynal Mustafa or Life or Hudemi as a child. Gunung Pari studied at an Islamic boarding school and changed places as a wandering student. This is done to gain deeper religious knowledge than various teachers and scholars, of course.
He attended several Islamic boarding schools in West Java and was appointed assistant to Kyai Muttaqien because of his wits. He has noble dreams of having the opportunity to organize and manage his pesantren. Until then, this dream was fulfilled in the rural area of Baguer, Singaparna. Of course, this is the story before the western Java Singaparna people’s resistance against the Japanese.
Thereafter, after performing the pilgrimage in 1937, he changed his name to KH Zaynal Mustafa. He made learning Arabic as the main thing in order to understand religious sciences more easily. However, his Islamic boarding school also taught material about Indonesian history and the protection of the motherland.
The presence of this material supervised KH Zaynal Mustafa with the intelligence of the Dutch colonialists. Even then, he was imprisoned by the Netherlands. Of course, this happened because of his criticism of the policies of the colonists, which at the time were considered contrary to religious teachings and considered inhumane.
He continued to do everything in his power to protect his religion and his people. Challenge every policy from the invaders until the Japanese come to Indonesia. His love for the motherland is indisputable. He had many services that were carried out as a national hero and greatly influenced the struggle of the Indonesian people.
The struggle of the people of Singaparna must really end in defeat. But there has been much opposition in other areas to completing the colonialist policies that do not correspond to the well-being of the people. From the anti-Japanese resistance of the people of Singaparna West Java, the indonesian people’s struggle was really so extraordinary to protect its independence.
